Update 20:30 16/03:
To all our Artists, Audiences, Partners and all other participants,
Following the Prime Minister’s press conference advising audiences to stay away from theatres and pubs, we have had to make the decision to not open the Festival’s doors for its final week.
It is with broken hearts that we make this statement, but we know you will understand why. We cannot safely, nor would we want to, encourage people to act against explicit government advice. As of this moment, all future performances and events at VAULT Festival 2020 will not happen.
We are deeply sad. Nonetheless, we are going to work as quickly as possible to let each participant know how this affects them, and we’re going to work as hard as possible to minimise the financial impact upon our artists and staff.
This will take some time. We ask for your patience while we do so, and we ask that you continue to treat each other with kindness, respect and love as we face this unprecedented challenge together.
We will be in touch with more detail, and a full press release & statement, as soon as we can.
Sincerely,
Mat & Andy
Over 100 visiting companies were due to perform in the “lost” week of VAULT Festival 2020. Please find them on twitter, instagram, or wherever else to stay up to date with their announcements so you can go and support them as and when their shows are back on their feet.
Every year, we launch a collection of playtexts curated from the Festival, and published by, Nick Hern Books called Plays From VAULT. You can still buy one, and we’ll post it out to you as soon as we can. We’ve also got beanies, water bottles, and notebook collections.

The effect of this has put our Festival, and the companies presenting their work here, in a precarious financial position. Our request to you is to consider the possibility of not asking us for a refund. We will fulfil any requested refunds, as we appreciate everyone is in a different financial circumstance. If you have the means to consider your ticket purchase a donation in support of the Festival and the artist you’ve booked to see we’d be very grateful.
If you would like to request a refund or a partial refund for your tickets please do so by writing to us at [email protected] with your order number before 6pm on Friday 27th March. We’re processing a high volume of communications at present, so your patience is greatly appreciated.
Any refunds not requested before 6pm Friday 27th March will be automatically turned into a donation to support the festival and our artists. So if you’re happy to turn your ticket to a donation, you don’t need to do anything at all.
VAULT Festival has existed since 2012 to provide new opportunities for artists thanks to the support of our audiences. As of the 16th March, we don’t know what the future holds. By making a donation to VAULT Festival, you can help support us and our work in emerging artist development, such as the New Writers Programme, the Emerging Critics Programme and the CULTIVATE Bursary, amongst much more.
You can make a donation directly to us right now using the buttons below. Donations like this – however small – will help. Read more about the Festival’s values and ethos at here.
