The dilemma of settling for Mr Average in order to fulfill the dream of being a mother is something that so many women face. To compromise our feminism in pursuit of a man to realise that biological happy-ever-after dictated by our ovaries is a hard choice.
But when a dark – and really awful – drunken fumble in a toilet with the worst tinder match ever results in an unexpected visit from the stork… Could this be the answer?
The nightmare-fantasy of the wrong choice with the wrong guy that instead ends up making all your dreams come true.
Unless of course you end up elbows deep in shitty nappies. On your own.
Lead artist Gemma Harvey is an actor, writer and producer. Hugely passionate about continuing to break the mold across the creative industry, she co-founded Loquitur Theatre in 2015 to help create better gender representation across the industry. Now as a writer, her mission continues to create brave and incisive work based on women and their experience.
Gemma’s award winning solo show LOBSTER premiered at Theatre 503 and The Bunker before heading up to the Underbelly Edinburgh. The reimagined version of the show was all set to hit the Edinburgh fringe in 2020 before going on national tour, however, lockdown struck. In an attempt to keep the show alive, and evolve the project, an online mini-series: LOCKDOWN LOBSTER was created. Her multi-award winning short film LOVE had its UK premier at the BFI, Southbank and is enjoying great success at many international film festivals.
Loquitur Theatre was founded by Gemma Harvey and Lou-Lou Mason. The name translates to ‘She speaks’ reflecting commitment to producing work with women at the center of the story. The critically acclaimed original format Fémage a Trois provided an annual platform to develop new writing and push the agenda for women in theater including work by Anna Jordan, Polly Churchill and Charlotte O’Leary sitting alongside pieces by emerging artists. Other previous work includes Masala Monologues by new writer Sangeeta Pillai Lander presented at Rich Mix, the award winning Lobster written by Gemma Harvey, a dynamic multi-media journey through the perils of love and life in the digital age.
