The year is 1889 and intrepid journalist Nellie Bly is about to embark on her biggest adventure yet: racing around the world to beat Jules Verne’s famous fictional hero, Phileas Fogg. In a journey that captures the imagination of the world, she traverses continents, faces fierce ocean storms and even adopts a monkey! But can she make it back in less than 80 days? Shedlight Stories uses puppetry, audience interaction and a host of colourful characters to bring this amazing true story to life and prove that adventure stories aren’t just for boys.

Shedlight Stories

Shedlight Stories was founded with the express aim to bring to light amazing true stories that don’t get the coverage that they deserve, using them to inspire and educate.

With a specific focus on female, global majority, and LGBTQ+ stories, the company hopes to uncover the lives of incredible people you don't get taught about at school.

In 2022, Shedlight Stories debuted 'Around the World with Nellie By' at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and created a multi-generational verbatim theatre project telling the stories of Southwark residents in 1952 as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, funded by the Arts Council.
