A thousand-year-old tale retold and unleashed, raw and bloody and immediate. Beowulf as it hasn’t been heard for a millennia, the ancient pagan depths of it rewilded, expanded, and unbound.
The award-winning Owle Schreame theatre company and acclaimed storyteller Brice Stratford return to VAULT Festival with a fresh take on ancient myth, told through their unique style of rough, storytelling pirate-theatre, expanding the tale beyond the immediate sources and into ancient fragments from across history and legend, to complete the picture in ways no scholar has conceived of for centuries.
the Owle Schreame was established in Cambridge in 2008, specifically to explore original stage practice and to evolve historical techniques and approaches, to recreate for modern audiences the rough, visceral, interactive experience of historical storytelling and theatrical performance. We've since become stalwarts on the festival circuit, especially at VAULT and the Edinburgh fringe.
