Onstage sits a strange figure surrounded by blankets, holding a Ben and Jerry’s, and crying over the latest ‘will they won’t they?’ produced by Netflix.
This is Crystal Bollix and it’s now their turn to lead a Rom-Com. Will they (or won’t they) survive?
Join drag artist Crystal Bollix as they take on their greatest enemy yet … Romantic Comedies. Fall in love with this new cabaret extravaganza all about the pitfalls of chick-flicks and Colin Firth. Watch as they navigate the tricky world of rom-com masculinity, femininity and beyond. Expect gorgeous costumes, dazzling lip sync, and maybe a surprise guest or two…
The Haus of Bollix is a female and non-binary drag theatre collective that has been operating out of London. Their mission statement is to find the ‘celebration in crisis’ by asking ‘how can Crystal Bollix survive and thrive in a situation?’
Composed of four creatives, The Haus of Bollix practice is a collaboration between the writing side (analysing socio-political problems and confronting heteronormativity) and the drag side (trying out and tearing apart this analysis with a witty brutally honest guide). This combines together into the ‘Bollix’ point of view: celebration amidst crisis. Through lip-sync, comedy, dance, audience interaction, and song we drag the audience along an experimental journey. Embracing queer narrative structure and flowing through episodic ‘case studies’ that dig at big questions whilst maintaining a fun cabaret atmosphere.
