For just three shows at this year’s festival, Clay Party and Conflicted Theatre bring their SMASH-HIT two-hander to the Vaults. Inspired by SHOCKING true events, this is a play that blends True Crime with Romantic Comedy to deliver a thrill-ride as hilarious and touching as it is oh. so. TWISTED.
Nick’s cooking for Sam at his… and, if all goes to plan, this will be their first and last meeting. So what exactly is on the menu? Well, they say the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach…
The biting brainchild of “modern masterpiece” makers Clay Party and the “vividly stark” Conflicted Theatre Company, FIJI explores a relationship you might have only heard about in passing whispers… or on the news… FIJI has received numerous five-star reviews and two Off West End Award Nominations for Best Lead Performance: Eddie Loodmer-Elliott and Pedro Leandro.
Clay Party is a theatre group that champions new writing and specifically the exploration of society’s more curious subcultures. Using an in-house style that plays with the rhythms of conversational naturalism to underpin subject matter, Clay Party like to explore dramatic action between two or three characters in one single location and typically in real time.
Conflicted Theatre have been adapting, devising and creating new work for non-traditional theatre spaces since 2010. They strive to make accessible work that is so accessible it would allow them to walk up to anyone on any street and say, “Come see our show, we made it for you.” They explore dark subjects through humour and light and Artistic Director Evan Lordan says, “We try to exploit our imaginations as best we can in order to ignite yours”.
FIJI is a co-production between Leicester Square’s Tristan Bates Theatre, South London’s Omnibus Theatre and North London’s Pleasance Theatre and co-written by Eddie Loodmer-Elliott, Pedro Leandro and Evan Lordan. In the next couple of months FIJI is being produced by other theatre companies too; on both an amateur (Durham University) and international scale in Canada.
