Should you ever go back to someone, or something, that almost destroyed you?
What if they’re sorry? What if they say they’ve changed?
What if they’re offering an EU passport?
Following a bereavement, Brexit and a bad break up Anna decides to make some changes. When Anna suggested getting back with her ex, her friends were appalled, and to her surprise, her family felt very much the same way when she jumped into bed with Germany.
In ‘Going Deutsch’ Anna dates the country offering her citizenship despite taking the lives (and passports) of so many who came before her. Should she get back with Germany? Can they get past their history? Could they ever make it work?
Going Deutsch is a comedic show about relationships, inherited trauma and how much the past shapes the future.
I am a theatre maker, improvisor and facilitator.
As artistic lead for inclusive theatre company Hackney Shed, I have directed, devised and written work performed at venues including Theatre Royal Stratford East, Sutton House and Chats Palace. I've collaborated with companies including Hackney Empire, Access All Areas, Jackson’s Lane, Little Angel Puppet Theatre and National Theatre Connections.
As a long form improviser I am part of the team Rhinoceros.
I also work as a guest director, dramaturg and university lecturer.
I make work that is fun, playful and entices audiences to ask questions of narratives they may have heard before... but never like this. 'Going Deutsch' is my first solo show.
