The loss. The love. The unbearable rage and surprising hilarity; In Loving Memory is a celebration of the many shapes, colours and faces of grief.
It is also a funeral, because when you think about it… How different are musicals and funerals REALLY?
Through a series of musical eulogies, sung with a live band, Mia Morrissey invites us on a journey through, under, around, and beyond the stages of grief; revelling in the catharsis, humour and theatricality of funerals, musicals, life, and death.
So come dressed in your finest blacks and be prepared to laugh at all the wrong things, clap when you maybe shouldn’t, ugly cry off the mascara you shouldn’t have worn in the first place and relish a night of grief in all the mess of glitter.
Press & Reviews
★★★★
“Morrissey herself is captivating to watch… Overall (she) creates a web of a tale of someone who has thought deeply about what love costs… (She) reminds us that theatre itself allows us the space to share in grief, to understand grief, to say ‘Fuck You’ to grief, and to learn to survive with grief.”
RICHARD COTTER AUS
“Raw as grief. Tragic as a three foot coffin. Mia Morissey’s song cycle of death and loss IN LOVING MEMORY is a mixture of celebration and scream, love and loss. Morrissey hollers and hoots and howls, raging against the dying of the light, finally going gentle into that good night.”
SYDNEY ARTS GUIDE
“Mia Morrissey is very talented...The staging of the show was excellent… (and) musically, I enjoyed the show. The songs were all Mia originals, she has a good, clear and strong voice, and her band were terrific. I particularly liked the song where the chorus says- If this is the cost of love, I am ok to pay it.”
