Fancy a show full of joy, dreams and wisdom that’ll leave you laughing, crying and questioning every story you’ve been told?
Myths and legends create us. But in those stories everyone is cis and straight. Which can’t be right can it?
Queer people have been erased from our inherited stories for too long. Lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people have always been here. And it’s time our collective myths reflected that fact. So let’s remix what’s been passed down to us and sprinkle it with queer truth and joy.
Featuring stories from multiple cultures and heritages: our myths; reshaped, reformed, retold and queered. Remythed.
Presented by five kick-ass queer storytellers and developed by Roann Hassani McCloskey (My Father the Tantric Masseur, Who Murdered My Cat?, Hakawatis: Women of the Arabian Nights) and Joel Samuels (A Wake in Progress, Sugar Coat, Fever Pitch).
Roann Hassani McCloskey and Joel Samuels first met whilst working together at the Crystal Maze Live Experience in 2016. Since then, along with Drag and Sideshow legend Lolo Brow, they co-created Roann's first two solo shows. "My Father the Tantric Masseur" at Vault 2019 where it won an Origin Award and "Who Murdered My Cat" which was due to premiere at Vault 2020 but didn't get to be performed that year due to the pandemic. Since then "My Father..." has been to Edinburgh Fringe and toured the UK and "Who Murdered..." was finally premiered in early 2022 before also performing in Edinburgh 2022.
Joel and Roann are joined by a kick-ass team of queer storyteller/performers: Emile Clarke, Ishmael Kirby (CYRO) and Lucy Roslyn.
Emile Clarke is a LIPA trained actor with an extensive career in commercials, film ("Two A.M", "Out With a Bang") and theatre (Egg theatre, Leicester Curve, Disney, The Museum of London, The Natural Theatre Company and Bristol Old Vic). Alongside this he also teaches and creates as a writer and spoken word poet.
Lucy Roslyn is a multi-award winning playwright and performer, whose writing credits include "Orlando" (winner of a VAULT 2019 Origin Award), "Pennyroyal" and "The State Versus John Haynes" and performing credits include "Life and Death of a Journalist", "Mr. Happiness and the Water Engine" and "Chicken Shop".
Ishmael Kirby performs as CYRO, a Blasian, queer, non-binary, DRAG KING/THING! CYRO exudes political ferociousness and heartfelt celebrations of the black trans experience. From performances at Shakespeare’s Globe to Fantabulosa, they’ve performed across the UK and internationally, rooting his work in the LGBTQIA+ community and drawing from queer ancestors within their practice.
