Stag King is a performance lecture / drag show about personhood, productivity and what
happens when your role is made redundant. Queer performance artist Liberty Martin introduces the ancient god of the hunt, a seven-foot tall muscular deity, known in this incarnation as Stag King.
Stag King is half man, half stag and half-cut most of the time since his business collapsed
AGAIN. Liberty and the Stag King met at an online drag workshop in 2020, and decided to make a show that contextualises Stag King’s different professional roles, including: Revered God, Stag Night Entertainer and, most recently, Drag King. The performance asks how we survive and find meaning in our lives while many established sources of identity disappear. As a rapidly changing climate threatens our way of life, what can we learn from a sexy cervitaur whose working life peaked in the palaeolithic era?
Liberty Martin is an artist from Cardiff, now based in London. Liberty makes theatre, live art and scripts for TV and film.
As a performance artist Liberty has made work for and performed at festivals and venues including Latitude, FRIEZE London, La MaMa NY, Camden People’s Theatre, Dulwich Picture Gallery and Tate Modern. Liberty's writing for TV has been broadcast on the BBC in the UK and TV3 in Ireland, and is available to stream on Amazon.
