For the last six months Gina’s worked as a therapist in a prison for super-villains, determined to turn every last one into a hero. This audacious fusion of comic-book energy, theatre, and shadow puppets is her story.
Follow Gina as she plunges into the Powered Offenders Institute, and is forced to question everything she believes in. Her charges include King Cobra; a female drug-lord peddling hallucinogens, Lady Injustice; two college kids fused into one body, and Ink Lord; able to bring art to life, and angry enough to burn the world down.
From Daddy issues (that therapy staple) to toxic masculinity, queerness, classism, and mental health, Gina grapples with problems she’s ill-equipped to face. Will they see the error of their ways? Or is the error Gina’s in thinking they’re redeemable? Join us for a comedy-drama exploring redemption, rehabilitation and the nature of evil (but funny)
Dolls in Amber is a queer, female-led production company founded by a couple of geeky women excited by the challenge of making genre theatre on a dime.
We stick non straight-white-male narratives in the middle of genres traditionally dominated by them, and love surprising audiences with what's possible without CGI. We've got a proven track record producing thought-provoking, entertaining, and audacious theatre - our first run of 'Villain, Interrupted' was critically acclaimed and a finalist for an Off-West-End Award - but we're also here for escapist entertainment!
Dolls in Amber was co-founded by KT Roberts and Micha Mirto.
KT is a stage and screenwriter currently working on premium near-fi series for Anton and BAFTA winning director Otto Bathurst, while Micha is a director and dramaturg who's worked with Disney, Penguin Random House, Newsrevue and the NHS. Her fringe theatre work has been four-time Off-West-End Award nominated, and her most recent show, LETHE, ran for two weeks at the King's Head in November 2022.
