Ghost stories are shorthand for questions of memory, inheritance, and generations. How can we queer this space? What happens if the ghosts don’t know they’re ghosts? Centering found family, ideas of home, and ghosts(!), this pressure-cooker play is a touching drama guaranteed to appeal to those fascinated by abandoned buildings and the late 80s.
The gothic and the queer have found a connection in their response to heteronormative mainstreams, morphing it into something new. Ghosts have always been vehicles for non-heteronormative performances of gender, non-linear timelines, and new subjectivities. We want to bring this forward into the 21st century with a fresh take on ghost stories, and what they can mean at this moment in time. This ghost story puts the queer to the front, celebrating queer joy, finding the beauty in the ramshackle, and highlighting the importance of family unbound by blood.
