In the beginning, there were words – first words, second words, sentences and then, our life stories. But where do those stories start? And how do the stories we tell ourselves end up shaping the people we become? In this warm and relatable spoken word show, award-winning poet PM answers these questions and shares their own experiences as a 20-something, British-Indian queer person. In the beginning was the word is guaranteed to have you laughing, crying and questioning your identity all at the same time.
PM is a writer across disciplines. Covering topics of gender, sexuality and cultural identity, PM puts authenticity and vulnerability at the heart of all their performances. PM has been part of the UK spoken word scene since 2017, coming 3rd in the UK National Slams in 2019 and winning the [email protected] prize for their poem ‘The Persistence of Memory’ in 2020. In 2022, they were a Roundhouse Poetry Slam semi-finalist and headlined their debut show 'Just Being Me' at Migration Matters Festival, opening for spoken word legend Lemn Sissay. They have made it their mission to make poetry more accessible and inclusive, sharing spoken word as a form of entertainment and comfort in these tough times.
