In a not-so-distant future where fires run rampant and trees equate wealth, queer people are finally taking up space. As in they’re literally migrating to a colony in space funded by dead billionaires. Jumping across two timelines, Jo & Joe tells the story of two very confused, self-involved strangers as they navigate sex, drugs, and existential dread – all while searching for space whales and desperately trying to become the people they’re meant to be. This is a work-in-progress reading.
WetSock is an emerging, international queer collective. Freshly formed and incredibly passionate, we came together because we didn’t feel represented in the stories currently being told and wanted to present our unique points of view. WetSock specialises in devising psychedelic shows centred around messy, hilarious and complex individuals who happen to be queer. Shows we could have used five to ten years ago and shows we could all use now. Shows of hope.
So often queer representation is about the trauma, pain and shame of it all - and frankly, we’re exhausted by that. Instead, we are making honest and slightly surreal work about the joyfully rotten queer people we know and love.
