Magpie tells the story of Margaret, a 65-year-old ‘hoarder’, entombed in her home by mountains of her own possessions. After 35 years of accumulating, this is the only place Maggie feels safe, here she is Queen. And yet, Maggie has lost sight of why it all matters. Through a combination of physical theatre/ movement + ethereal storytelling, Maggie lets us into her Queendom to try to find the truth.
However, there is an external threat that is set to turn Maggie’s world upside down. The council and social workers are invading. The walls of her precious fortress are tumbling down, can she save it?
‘Snafu’ is a partnership of Harriet Gandy (actor/ writer) and Antonia Draper (actor/director/writer/choreographer). After meeting in their training at East15 and discovering their shared love of movement expression, Gandy and Draper have worked together to create theatre which explores the relationship between words and movement, and using this to discover complex and imperfect female characters. Last year they took the devised piece, and arts council funded one person show Horsepower to Brighton + Edinburgh Fringe, as well as Omnibus Theatre, receiving 4 star reviews.
Press & Reviews “Praise for previous work”
"...what really impresses is the almost poetic story-telling, the absorbing nature of the tales and Gandy’s sensitivity, graceful movements and genteel voice that illustrates how intensity and suspense can be created in the calmest of manners." Broadway Baby ****
"this is exceptional, both as dramatic writing, design and performance."
FringeReview (Hidden Gem)
"Lyrical, brutal, evoking Sarah Kane's in-yer-face."
