“Ripe tomato. She calls me ripe tomato. I ask her to smother me in olive oil. She smothers me in olive oil.”
Over the course of a feverish summer, newly-weds Cass and Peri’s lives are flung into disarray when their landlord falls desperately in love with Cass, abusing the full weight of his power to get in between her and her wife. Tugged between currents of triangulated jealousy, love and joy, they, and their closest friends, are pulled into the dangerous orbit of their landlord’s desire. This radical adaptation pulls Peribañez, a classic tale of love, sex and power into South London now, where its light and fast-paced touch resonates with powerful questions around hierarchy and consent, jealousy, justice and revenge.
