‘Marvellously dramatic dancer’ (New York Times) Laura Careless tells the stories of the forgotten female rulers of England who set the stage for Elizabeth I. Based on Helen Castor’s book/BBC series, “She-Wolves” is “an extraordinary experience and an essential watch for anyone wanting to rip the rug up from underneath patriarchy’s grip on history” (Wee Review). Movement, spoken word, animations, and song breathe new life into thrilling episodes and captivating personalities from the medieval and Tudor eras. Laura explores Britain’s historical relationships with gender and power, and seeks to reclaim “she-wolf” as an expression of personal re-wilding . With choreography by UK National Dance award winner Jonathan Watkins and animation by BBC Film Network award winner Belle Mellor. ‘Radically relevant…If you are dithering about whether to go, you should.’ (***** Broadway Baby).
