In 2011, five fishermen on the Isle of Wight (Jamie Green, Jon Beere, Zoran Dresic, Daniel Payne & Scott Birtwistle) were sentenced to a total of 104 years for conspiracy to import £53m worth of cocaine. The largest haul in British history. They have always professed their innocence.

Inspired by the award-winning Guardian podcast of the same name, award-winning production company Deadman (Artistic Director Samuel Bossman) brings the powerful tale of The Freshwater Five to the stage, following sold-out performances on the Isle of Wight and a tour of coastal communities.

This is an urgent piece of theatre for London audiences in the ongoing fight for justice and for the divide in our country, characterised by Brexit. Through spectacular storytelling, verbatim accounts, inventive stagecraft and song, the Isle of Wight cast delves into subjects of classical/contemporary smuggling, immigration and folklore interwoven through this ancient profession/way of life.
