Alex is funny. That’s what Lila says at least. But it’s more embarrassing coming from yer mum right? “It’s genetic, Hun. I’m f**king funny me.”

You know that thing when yer dad’s a philandering absentee, yer relationships are forever on the wonk and the binary don’t apply? Yeh, that’s Alex on the daily.

Thank f**k for Lila.

Alex and their mum are both just trying to do life. Some days it’ll make them wanna punch through a wall, on others they’ll find themselves slow-dancing in an art gallery. Whatever gets ‘em through ya know?

In this half-play, half stand-up gig, Anna Wheatley explores the art of being human in a world obsessed with boxes. You might do a laugh. You might do a cry. You might join hands and stick two fingers up to society.

About Magna

Magna is a new company founded by writer Anna Wheatley and director Jessica Daniels.

Anna is a writer, actor and musician. She has bopped around being in plays and gigging but she never stopped writing. After having a number of short plays performed by RBL theatre company, Anna’s first full length play; a queer, feminist adaptation of A Christmas Carol, was staged at South Street Arts in December 2018. The company then recommissioned her to write this year’s show; a rave adaptation of Hansel and Gretel which will play at South Street this Christmas.

Jess is a theatre director, and is currently Resident Director of Girl From the North Country. Earlier this year she was in Toronto for its Canadian premiere, prior to it returning to the West End at the end of 2019.
Directing credits include; Connect NOW Monologues (The Old Vic); Connie Wookey: Denied (Soho Theatre); The Butterfly Lion (The Barn Theatre); A Pupil (Park Theatre - Off West End nominated); Conquest (VAULT Festival/The Bunker); The State We’re In (Theatre503).
