From the Berlin underground comes the Full Moon Cabaret, a subversive experimental varieté hosted by Viva Lamore. This edition of the Full Moon Cabaret celebrates the Blue Moon with burlesque, varieté, and the dirtiest blues song ever written.
The Full Moon Cabaret is an immersive art party with burlesque, varieté, and sexy surprises, loosely exploring a theme derived from what Native Americans traditionally called the full moon. The Full Moon Cabaret takes this name as a jumping point for an eccentric examination of gender, sexuality, and the general absurdity of being human.
Each night features 3-4 international performers and interactive audience hijinks including the infamous mooning contest where an audience member can win a mason jar of O’Donnell’s moonshine. Tying everything together is the Full Moon Players, a troupe of Berlin-based actors and dancers performing devised theatrical oddities ranging from political satire to interpretative dance. High brow and low brow, but never middle brow, the Full Moon Cabaret is a witty and incisive evening celebrating the lunacy within us all.
Full Moon Cabaret was founded by Victoria Linchong (aka Viva Lamore), an award-winning producer and director from New York City with very wide interests. After moving to Berlin in 2015, she became involved in several underground arts communities and felt that there should be a platform to unite them all. She remembered the Full Moon Show, a variety show hosted and produced by her friend Tom Murrin, which was a centerpiece of the avant-garde performance art scene in New York City from the 1970s until Murrin's death in 2012. Taking the DIY, all-embracing, avant-garde spirit of the Full Moon Show, Linchong began hosting the Full Moon Cabaret in 2016 to celebrate, catalyze, and unite Berlin's diverse underground art communities. In the past two years, bemused (and sometimes terrified) Berlin audiences have found themselves dancing around a giant penis maypole, eating canapés off a naked lady, and baring their derriere in a monthly mooning contest. In 2018, Full Moon Cabaret played to sold-out audiences at the Edinburgh Festival, where we learned that it's true, Scottish men don't wear anything under their kilts.
