Janine Harouni: The Millionth (Work in Progress)

Presented by Janine Harouni

Winner of the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year 2018 and 1/3 of multi-award winning sketch trio Muriel, Janine Harouni brings you a work-in-progress hour about standing up for what you believe in, even if you have to do it really nicely.

Janine's father is a lifelong New Yorker and son of Middle-Eastern immigrants. He's also an avid Donald Trump supporter. Attempting to reconcile those things make for one tense Sunday dinner.

Seen and heard on Comedy Central, Comic Relief, BBC Three, BBC Four, and on BBC Radio Four as a nominee for the BBC New Comedy Award.

Star of Comedy Central’s sketch series ‘Modern Horror Stories’, she’s also been featured on BBC Three, BBC Four, Comic Relief, and BBC Radio Four.

Winner of the 2018 Laughing Horse New Act of the Year, Janine was also a nominee for the BBC New Comedy Award 2017 and has been a finalist in numerous other national stand-up competitions including the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year 2017 and the Pleasance Comedy Reserve 2018. She has written for Comedy Central's upcoming all-female sketch series 'Laughing at Salad', BBC Three's 'Quickies', and BBC Radio Four’s 'Newsjack'.

She is also part of the critically-acclaimed sketch trio Muriel (Winners: Leicester Square Sketch Off 2017, So You Think You're Funny 2017) whom Chortle have hailed as 'the New Smack the Pony'. Their debut show ‘Bad Master’ sold out its run at the Edinburgh Fringe and two subsequent runs at the Soho Theatre with extra dates added.

Muriel's online videos have amassed millions of views and have been featured in the Evening Standard, ITV News, Time Out, Chortle, Mashable, and the Daily Mail among others. Their latest videos were made in collaboration with BBC Three and remain some of BBC Three's most viewed, shared, and liked sketches to date.

Janine is also the long time director of musical comedy duo Stiff & Kitsch (WeGotTickets Musical Comedy Award Winners 2018, Vault Comedy Award Winners 2017) and directed and helped create the hit show ‘Adele is Younger Than Us’, which sold out venues across the UK and Ireland and transferred to the Soho Theatre this past June.

As an actress, she made her professional debut as leading lady Julia in the smash hit ‘1984’ on the West End. Broadway Box described her performance as 'an incredible, disturbing and completely buzz-worthy West End debut.' In January she made her feature film debut as Jeanne de Caillavet in Colette opposite Keira Knightley.
