Nina is a young genius and her nanna is her number one supporter. Together they share a love of books, stories and food! When opportunity to study comes knocking Nanna encourages her to take it even though it would mean that Nina would have to live far away from home. But Nina has a trick up her sleeve - she is a genius inventor after all! She manages to have her cake and eat it through means of a portal she's built, which allows her to visit home every evening and share all her adventures with Nanna, before returning to her studies. One day Nina gets shocking news from home which changes her outlook completely. The truth comes crashing down and Nina is faced with a tough question - what does it mean to succeed? She needs to decide.
Nanna's Bolognese is a heartwarming piece of storytelling told through music, shadow puppetry, physical theatre and text based performance. Prickly Pear Productions is a theatre company set up to work with actors and artists from minority ethnic backgrounds. It's mission is to tell the stories inspired by different cultures with actors and creatives that are under represented in the industry. Our repertoire comprises of two shows currently; Nanna's Bolognese which debuted at the Camden Fringe Festival in August 2019 and is now coming to the VAULT Festival in February 2020, and Immigration Crisis: The Musical, which debuted at the Migration Matters Festival 2019 and will be coming to London at the Camden People's Theatre in April 2020.
Zoe Farrugia is a co-founder of Prickly Pear Productions and has been creating theatre, performing and contributing to the Sheffield theatre scene for the past 4 years. Zoe graduated with a BA(Hons) Theatre Studies at the University of Malta. She formed part of the University's Student Council as the Culture and Entertainment Officer during her second year and directed the musical #LionKink with a cast a crew of 150 students. After University she moved to the UK and has performed in a variety of shows at Sheffield Theatres including Losing It and Songs from the Seven Hills. She has also performed alongside the improvisational musical group Showstoppers in May 2019 and in Immigration Crisis: The Musical by Prickly Pear in June 2019.
Chantelle Micallef Grimaud studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland following an MA in Musical Theatre after having read for a Masters in Creativity & Innovation and graduated from a BA in English & Theatre Studies at the University of Malta. Most recently Chantelle played Duke in The Play On Theatre Company's Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Agave/Chorus in Esmond Road Production's The Bacchae. Credits include puppeteering for Lucid by Twice Shy Theatre (Latitude Festival), Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Teatru Astra, Gozo), Comedy Knights (Teatru Salesjani), Angeleta and Etelvina (Firsts Festival - Little Angel TBook Now
