nest by Katy Warner

A messy love story rages in a long-forgotten council estate.

“They made beautiful patterns in the sky and then just disappeared.”

Jade is alone, always alone, until one night Liam accidently knocks on her door looking for a party. What he finds is more beautiful then he could ever imagine, yet it might just break them both. Set against an isolated council estate, NEST is the beautifully messy love story of two people forgotten by society, with nowhere left to turn but to each other.

NEST, by award-winning Australian playwright Katy Warner, was shortlisted from 1,600 plays during the prestigious Theatre503 playwriting award 2016 and also for Live Theatre’s Live Lab Bursary 2017. Small Truth Theatre are proud to present the world premiere of this striking new play as part of VAULT Festival 2018.

“Playwright Katy Warner must surely be one of the most exciting discoveries in Australian theatre to have emerged in recent memory.” ★★★★★ The Music (Praise for Warner’s play Spencer).

About the company

Small Truth Theatre

Small Truth Theatre are a collective of award-winning artists who between them have a rich & successful catalogue of independent and collaborative projects specialising in new writing.

Together, we seek to present a high standard of work that aims to be experiential and realise moments of truth in life that often go unseen. We make theatre to push the boundaries of conventional performance and bring different communities together with stories that showcase the real-life and relevant struggles of today’s world.

Recent credits include being awarded the Arcola Lab Residency for DEAD YARD (Bruntwood Prize longlist 2017) which was later selected for the acclaimed Playwrought festival; and ON THE LINE, an immersive and interactive site-specific play looking at community spirit during the miners’ strike in 1984 as part of Southwark’s Merge Festival 2016.
