Bodies meeting bodies amidst the dark corners, flashing lights, blaring music. A touch lingering. Whispered suggestion. Deny? Accept. The aftermath, the pillow talk, the next morning. Connection. Unexpected flourishing. The subversion of all your expectations.
Ringmaster is a devised production brought to you by Network Theatre. Using Arthur Schnitzler's La Ronde as a jumping off point, we seek to explore how performativity, sex, and relationships intertwine in contemporary London through a series of interlocking dialogues between the archetypical characters of today. We draw on elements of physical theatre and queer theatre to produce this electrifying work that reflects the highs and lows of our human connections. We ask:
In our sexual & romantic lives, how do public personas influence private performances? What forces are behind our negotiations of consent? How many relationships have been lost over the inability of men to load the dishwasher correctly?
Ringmaster takes its signature blend of camp, irony, metatheatre, poetics, and subversion straight to the heart of our desires - can we really control them as much as we think we can?
