The poetry of Roger McGough explodes from the page to the stage in this fantastical circus and puppetry adventure where pigs fly and the sky is in the pie. Join a day-dreaming boy for one amazing day where he discovers the extra-ordinary in the ordinary wherever he goes.
The Feathers of Daedalus Circus have teamed up with celebrated author and poet Roger McGough for this new wonderfully wacky children’s production inspiring young and old to fall in love with poetry. With circus, physical theatre, puppetry and projection, the Feathers explore fun and fantastical ways to play with poetry, dipping into works from Roger’s 50 year career topped up with new poems especially created for the show.
A day so ordinary. Or one quite extraordinary? For what day is ever ordinary in the eyes of a daydreamer? Setting off for his first day at school he discovers a plague around in the playground. He meets the girl who became a book, and the boy who was born to bugle. He finds a domesticated donkey, a sound collector and a blue macaw in a drawer. At home he eagerly awaits a well deserved dinner, but there is a sky in the pie. Mother’s done it again! He lies down to sleep, rests his head on his catapillow, dreams of a school for ghouls, a rolling meatball, spelling bees and everything in between.
The Feathers of Daedalus Circus are known for ambitious multi-disciplinary circus productions having created shows with amazing circus mixed with spoken word, live music, collage, film and projections. We are always looking for new collaborators so we are very excited to be using puppetry alongside circus and poetry to lead you through our fantastical adventure. You will be intrigued, amused and amazed by the Sky in the Pie and through it we hope you will learn or re-learn a love of poetry.
Founded after our ★★★★★ Cambridge University children's show ‘Alice’ in 2016, in just 3 years we have worked with over 100 performers on two continents, created 5 full length shows seen by over 10,000 people. We are a company striving for unexpected multidisciplinary collaboration to promote circus as a powerful art form and collaborator, creating relevant experimental multidisciplinary work. Our first professional show Coppelia, 2017, a circus, spoken word and 16mm film adaptation of the ballet, won Arts Council Funding and a Lab:Time award from National Centre for Circus Arts. We presented at Jacksons Lane Theatre and at Edinburgh Fringe in Assembly’s Palais du Variete to great success. Gaining predominantly ★★★★ reviews, appearing twice on Best of the Fest and at the National Museum of Scotland. Coppelia was seen by 3500 people. Reviews said we ‘transgress all convention in genre, style and gender’ and our show ‘cannot be commended enough for its ingenuity, refreshing and transfixing directorial choices, and top class performances’ (fringe review). We completed a residency in Brazil in 2018, presenting A Midsummer Night’s Dream, an immersive circus and music adaptation of Shakespeare, collaborating with Rosemary Dream and Circocan and giving workshops in circus storytelling. Our second show, Mythologue, a spoken word and circus retelling of Greek myths was made for CAN festival and Teatro Pedro Ivo. Tarot, our second production at VAULT was performed at the Vaults in April, with Assembly Festival throughout August and at Underbelly Southbank in September receiving primarily ★★★★ reviews.Book Now

Wee Review ★★★★ ‘a magnificent, magical circus display with an incredible soundtrack and a look to die for’
EdFringe Review ★★★★ ‘Tarot is a spell-binding hour of incredible human feats that leaves you awestruck and changed. We’re not sure whether it’s theatre, or acrobatics, or dance, or comedy, or clairvoyance. The Feathers of Daedalus perform a jaw-dropping blend of all of these that combines to be truly mind- bending: this must be circus.’
Broadway Baby ★★★★ ‘Tarot cards occupy an interesting place in our culture, from esoteric symbols of divination to prisms through which psychoanalysts can explore subconscious archetypes. This show infuses this powerful cultural imagery with music, energy and impressive, highly-charged physical performance’.
The Mumble ★★★★ 'Poetic, but non verbose, humorous, but atmospheric at all times, ethereal or intense, Tarot is a soulful and playful journey that adjusts the past at the present and vice versa without feeling pretentious or forced.’
