Storm

Emma wants to dance. Phoebe is struggling to stay out of referral units. Austerity hasn’t helped, screens are proving to be very challenging and trauma lurks somewhere in the very beginnings of the umbilical cord. When you are battling a storm you gotta hanker down and believe it will pass. But when the storm gets into your home what do you do to protect yourself and the ones you love?

STORM is a raw, new play written by Juliet Knight and gives voice to invisible women who have sat alone in special care units and now wonder if that is why their miracle children are teenagers who fight so hard against the world. STORM also includes a new original score by Tristan Parkes and Aruhan Galieva.

Supported by Arts Council England, National Youth Theatre and first supported by National Theatre Studio.

Press & Reviews

Reviews from director Juliet Knight's work include:

"What struck me most was the vigour of Juliet Knight's production..the action is punctuated by stylised interludes beginning and ending with a longed for racial harmony" Michael Billington, The Guardian (for White Boy at Soho Theatre)

"An absorbing production" Sam Marlowe, The Times (for White Boy at Soho Theatre)

“Juliet Knight masterfully directs the 50 voices rising in unison, feet beating together like an army, hands clapping as one” The Up Coming (for Zigger Zagger at Wilton's Music Hall)

“Director Juliet Knight drills her cast of 14 beautifully and makes the most of Duffy’s indictment of post- Diana grief culture”. Fiona Mountford (for Prime Resident at Soho Theatre)
