The Half

Presented by Fabric Productions, Danielle Ward & Anna Crilly

‘Brutally funny... intelligent and moving’ Guardian

"I’ve been doing this for 17 years. I thought I’d got better. Funnier, sharper, more confident, with more to say about the world. Turns out I just got old"

Thirty minutes before curtain up, in the half, a female double act meet for the first time in over a decade. Now approaching their 50s in an industry rife with ageism, Cathy and Nell must put their differences aside to perform together once more. Ambition, friendship, motherhood, ageing and mice are all explored in this tragicomedy.

Direct from a sold out run at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival, The Half is the new play from award winning writer and comedian Danielle Ward (Do The Right Thing, Not Going Out, The News Quiz). Starring British Comedy Award nominee Anna Crilly (Succession, Lead Balloon, Extras) and Margaret Cabourn-Smith (Miranda, Motherland, Catastrophe) and directed by Anna Macgowan (critically acclaimed writer and regular BBC contributor).

About the company

Fabric Productions, Danielle Ward & Anna Crilly

The company is made up of 5 women all in their 40s, all with children ranging from 1-19 years old and all dedicated to making brilliant, engaging and powerful theatre. Written by Danielle Ward, a comedian and award winning writer who wrote cult hit fringe musicals Psister Psycho and Gutted and is currently working with Idris Elba. Starring British Comedy Award nominee Anna Crilly (Lead Balloon, Anna & Katy) and Margaret Cabourn-Smith (John Finnemore, Miranda) two well known comedy actors who themselves achieved acclaim and success in double acts. Our producer Lucy McNally who has years of experience working at the hugely successful award winning Menier Chocolate Factory and our director Anna Macgowan, a stand-up and writer turned director.
We are committed to working as a collaborative, supportive group who can juggle the demands of everyday life alongside making fantastic theatre.

We recently enjoyed a fantastic sold out run at The Pleasance as part of the 2018 Edinburgh Festival. We had incredible audience responses, excellent reviews and a brilliant feature in The Guardian which examined the show, its origins and our creatives in depth.

We are looking forward to bringing the show to London audiences and being a part of this prestigious festival.
