'The Sublet Next to Heaven' tells the story of Lara and John (and their dogs), whose lives change forever when they meet in Preston Park and time starts running really really fast. Written a performed by Madeleine Accalia, 'The Sublet Next to Heaven' is a funny, tender and surreal exploration of women’s bodies, public spaces and devils in paradise.
This production was first developed by Madeleine Accalia at GEMA Collective’s ‘Too Many Men 2’ Scratch night and Speakeasy. It will be produced for VAULT in association with Laughing Mirror Theatre Company, with whom Accalia's previous play 'White Girls'( ***** - Feminist Fringe & ThreeWeeks / **** - LondonTheatreOne) is set to embark on a UK tour in 2020.Book Now
Madeleine Accalia - Writer and Performer
Madeleine is a playwright, poet and performer based in London. She was part of the North Wall’s Catalyst playwriting programme in 2017 and won ‘Best Upcoming Young Writer’ at INK Festival 2018. Her play 'White Girls' was shortlisted for New Writing South's 'Best New Play' at Brighton Fringe 2018, before completing a full run at Edinburgh Fringe 2019. She has a First Class degree in Scriptwriting and Performance from the University of East Anglia and is Co-Dramaturg at Laughing Mirror Theatre Company.
Phoebe Wood - Director
Phoebe Wood is a director/writer based in London. This year her plays ‘ROGER’ and ‘My First Time Was In a Parking Lot’ were performed at Southwark Playhouse and Theatre 503/The Lion and Unicorn Theatre. She wrote and directed ‘HUG THE BUNNY’ which debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2018. She graduated with a first class degree in 2018 in Scriptwriting and Performance from the University of East Anglia.
Damie Lemomu - Creative Producer
Damie Lemomu completed a BA in Drama at UEA in 2018. She currently works as a Communications Assistant at New Adventures and a Production Assistant at TEAfilms in London. Most recently, she has produced Hug the Bunny which had its debut at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018 and was featured in an article ‘Eight plays we’d wish we’d seen as a Teenager’ and is co-founder of Silver Patch Pictures a UK based film production company currently working on releasing their first film Shades of Blue.
