VAULT New Writers Award Showcase

Two showcases of brand new writing talent at VAULT Festival

VAULT New Writers Award is an 8-week practical writing course taking place at VAULT Festival 2018 (25 January – 18 March) for prospective writers over the age of 18 who have never had a full-length play staged before.

The winners have now been selected – read more at the VAULT New Writers Award page.

The show on the 17th March will feature short pieces by Nicola Taylor, Lillian Pierce, Sam Cormor and Nkenna Akunna.

The show on the 18th March will feature short pieces by Ifrah Ismail, Chloë Florence, Leila Nashef and Joshua Asaré.

What Does It Involve?

8 selected participants will receive mentoring and support to draft a 60-minute piece for stage, of which a 15-minute extract will be guest directed, cast, produced and performed over two finale showcase evenings to an audience made up of invited industry and the public.

VAULT New Writers Awards offers a total introduction to writing for stage and is therefore not a programme for people who have done multiple writing courses before. We will start right at the beginning, with the basics, with the course being non-patronising and inclusive.

Who’s Behind It?

The VAULT New Writers Award is designed and developed by playwright Camilla Whitehill (Where Do Little Birds Go?, Mr Incredible) and producer Rosalyn Newbery in partnership with VAULT Festival.

It is proudly supported by theatre publishers and performing rights agents, Nick Hern Books, who will also consider scripts with a view to potential publication.
