Inspired by a movement; two stories captured in two boxes.

We have placed two freight containers outside VAULT Festival. Inside them, two one-on-one performances.

Written by Annie Jenkins and Joe Kerridge, these stories are born from current dialogues about harassment, abuses of power and gender. One of bath bombs, quavers, an adolescent relationship that has left an indelible mark. The second looks back from the future on the toxic nature of masculinity.

Working with Queen Mary University of London, RIFT are building fully responsive immersive environments for these stories to live within.

VOID is supported by Arts Council England, Queen Mary University of London and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Warning: This production contains vivid discussion of sexual abuse and significant periods in complete darkness.

About the company

RIFT tell stories without boundaries. Since 2012 we have produced 25 productions including ‘Styx’ in 2015 an audio adventure through London. ‘Macbeth’ in 2014, an overnight experience at Balfron Tower. ‘The Trial’ in 2013 spilled the events of Kafka’s paranoid novel throughout Shoreditch. ‘O Brave New World’ 2012, was a six part retelling of the Tempest. We also produced Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival a two year celebration of the bard’s East London roots which was formed of fourteen new commissions performed in found spaces across Hoxton.

Since 2015 we have run STYX a performance space in North London which has housed collaborations with the Royal Court, Belarus Free Theatre, The Young Vic, LIFT and many smaller companies.

Press & Reviews

Life In The Cheap Seats

"All in all it couldn't have been more perfect."

The Stage

"Astounding ... A triumph ... subtle, slick."

Broadway World

"An extraordinary evening of disorientation, intimidation and fascination."

The Guardian

"Exhilarating ... Hugely Ambitious"

What's On Stage

"Creation of a near-constant high level of anxiety in surveillance heavy London is a masterstroke and would surely pass muster with Kafka himself."

Miriam Gillinson, Time Out

"‘Styx’ is the latest immersive adventure from Rift, the company behind an overnight ‘Macbeth’ and a roaming version of ‘The Trial’. The term ‘immersive’ is used so loosely these days but this eerie whirlwind from director Felix Mortimer – which is a solo journey with headphones – is horribly and impressively intense. "
